By mistake, we restarted one of the backend NFS servers. This happened at 3:00 PM today. The server was back in production as of 3:10 PM. The reason we restarted the server, was some old error messages looked to be the current date, but were not.

Last night, Sept 23, 2009, starting at 1:01 AM, email.psu.edu and mail.psu.edu starting having an issue with IMAP. One of the backend servers stopped responding in a correctly. The problem was detected and repaired as of 6:14. We believe the cause of the problem was some new software we tested that was running in conjunction with the production software. During the partial outage, some IMAP connections may have failed. We have disabled the new software and will look at other options.

Users are currently experiencing problems when logging in to TurnItIn at http:turnitin.psu.edu . The problem has been reported to the vendor and we will update the alert as we get more information. Questions about the outage should be sent to turnitin@psu.edu . Thank you.

Circuit Maintenance has been completed.

The failing hardware was replaced this morning. The server was back online as of 10:45.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations (eTDs) will be unavailable during the 5-7 a.m. maintenance window on Tuesday, September 22.

The Libraries Cat is available and seems stable at this time.

After being available briefly, we are again experiencing problems with the CAT. Technicians are evaluating.

On Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009, during the maintenance window, TNS will upgrade hardware in the Pattee2 router. Network connectivity to the Pattee2 router will be disrupted while the maintenance is in process. All services will be returned to normal before the end of the maintenance window.

All services for lxcluster.tlt.psu.edu are restored.

On 9/18/09, during the maintenance window, TNS will be upgrading hardware in the Computer2 router. Network connectivity to the Computer2 router will be disrupted while the maintenance is in process. All services will be returned to normal before the end of the maintenance window.

On 9/16/09, during the maintenance window, TNS will be upgrading hardware in the Willard2 router. Network connectivity to the Willard2 router will be disrupted while the maintenance is in process. All services will be returned to normal before the end of the maintenance window.

The following APACHE SERVERS will be restarted Tuesday morning, September 15th,
during the 5AM-7AM maintenance period. None of these restarts should require
more than 3 minutes of downtime for the individual servers but will affect Library services.

Power has been restored to the New Kensington campus. Networking services have returned to normal operations.

The hardware maintenance has been completed and Internet connectivity has been restored to normal.

The WebAccess service experienced a high load which caused delays in authenticating through it. Personnel are investigating the cause and ways to mitigate future occurrences.

On Thursday, September 10th, 2009, TNS will upgrade from two WS-X6524-100FX-MM modules to a WS-X6148-FE-SFP module in the ResearchPark2 router. During this time, there will be a brief outage as networks are moved from the old module into a slot in the new module. This will only affect customers connected to ResearchPark2 at 100MB. Individual customers will be notified.

Our circuit provider, Level 3, has cancelled this planned work.
