Library servers Roo and Coda will be restarted during the 5 - 7 a.m. maintenance window on Wednesday, Sept. 9 to install Windows Security Updates. This will be a very brief interruption but will affect ILLIAD and all directories on Roo.

There was no outage at the Dickinson campus. Alarms were triggered for the circuit to the new location at Trickett Building which is not operational yet.

We believe the cause of the problem was related to a race condition when new user accounts have been added. We have changed the add process, so this should alleviate the issue.

The circuit vendor experienced similar issues again this morning; This upgrade has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Friday, August 28th, 2009 at 5:00am.

On Thursday, August 27th, 2009 during the maintenance window, TNS will upgrade the firmware in the fiber optic converters in the following University Park Router hub locations: Telecom, Willard, and Pollock. During the upgrade, there will be a brief outage of network activity while the transition cards are reset. The impact will be minimal. All services will be restored by 7:00am.

There was a degradation of service for a number of services related to the same cause, which occurred shortly after the WebAccess degradation and resolved by 12:20pm.

Due to equipment, ITS Wireless service for the buildings below were disrupted for approximately 5 minutes beginning around 12:20 PM today. Services have been restored. The buildings affected were:

After the upgrade of the IMAP server on Aug 18, 2009 per http://alerts.its.psu.edu/alert-1197, users who access their e-mail with both POP and IMAP, may start seeing the following message in their inbox:

We had a hardware failure on a redundant filesystem manager. The primary manager was being upgraded and the backup had a hardware failure during that time. The hardware failure did not happen at the beginning of the upgrade, but in the middle, so we had to wait until the upgrade was complete before we could resolve the issue.

After further investigation, it was determined this outage was related to the one earlier in the day, referenced at:

Uploads of new videos and permission changes on the ITS Streaming Server (https://streaming.psu.edu) will be disabled by 5:00 pm today. This is required to prepare for the database and video files transfer to the new Network Video Servers, starting next Monday morning. Public movie links will continue to function until Monday morning, until all of the DNS updates have propagated.

On Wednesday, August 19th, 2009, during the maintenance window, TNS will activate circuits to provide alternate routing capability to Commodity Internet and Internet2 through Philadelphia. During this time, there will be a brief change in routing as our new connections are activated. All services will be normalized by 7:00am.

On Thursday, August 20th, 2009, TNS will upgrade the Distributed Forwarding Card (DFC) in the GigabitEthernet Module in Pollock2. During this time, network services will be unavailable. All services will be restored by 7:00am.

On Tuesday, August 18th, 2009, TNS will upgrade the Distributed Forwarding Card (DFC) in the GigabitEthernet Modules in Redundant1. During this time, network services will be unavailable. All services will be restored by 7:00am.

The http://blogs.psu.edu/ service has been restored by 7:36 a.m.

Alumni ACS: available at 11:30 am

Power has been restored to the Lehigh Valley campus. Normal networking services have resumed.

Power has been restored to the Hazleton campus. Networking services have returned to normal operations.

Library service connections will be intermittent during the 5-7 a.m. maintenance window on Tuesday, 8/18 while a router hardware upgrade is performed. All library pages and services, including web pages, Illiad, and the CAT will be interrupted briefly sometime during the maintenance window. All services should be restored by 7 a.m.

Some users may have experienced an inability to access their PASS space via the PASS Gateway, win.pass.psu.edu (also known as smb.pass.psu.edu, cifs.pass.psu.edu, and samba.pass.psu.ed). This is related to this morning's Partial PASS Outage (http://alerts.its.psu.edu/alert-1198). Between 2:20pm and 2:30pm the gateway serivce on most of the win.pass.psu.edu machines was restarted.
