WebMail: Best Practices

Lean Inbox: We recommend that you do not keep more than 20 messages in your Inbox at any time. You can either delete email immediately or transfer them to other folders. Delete unwanted mails from the other folders (i.e. the Outbox) as well.

Compress mailboxes: Click the Compress link on the top right side of all folders after you have deleted or moved messages from a mailbox. The deleting/moving process is completed only when this process is done.

Note: Compression will be done automatically in a new release of WebMail expected soon.

Using folders:

To create a folder :

  • Click on the Folders link in WebMail.

  • On the upper right hand corner of the page, type the name of the new folder.

  • Click Create Folder.

To transfer messages:

  • Go back to your Inbox.

  • Select the messages to transfer.

  • Choose the folder name at the bottom of the screen.

  • Click Move Selected Messages.

  • Click Compress after moving the messages.

To expand folder list (need to do this only once):

  • Click Options.

  • Check Expand folder in left frame.

  • Click Save Changes.

Not leaving email on the server:

To use this option:

  • Click Options on the left side.

  • Uncheck the box titled Leave mail on server.

  • Click on the Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.
