ITS Ends Support for Older Operating Systems

Posted 5/17/2005

Information Technology Services (ITS) is ending support for MAC OS 8.x, Windows NT, and Windows 98 operating systems.

  • MAC OS 8.x and below will end on June 30, 2005.

  • Windows NT 4 will end on June 30, 2005.

  • Windows 98 and 98SE will end on June 30, 2006.

Due to the declining number of users, other newer operating system offerings, lack of vendor update support, and increasing application incompatibilities, ITS has decided to end support for these systems. Microsoft ended support for Windows NT 4 in 2004 and has announced plans to drop support for Windows 98 in June 2006.

ITS urges all users and support personnel to upgrade their software (and hardware, if necessary) to ensure they are running supported operating systems. For assistance obtaining operating system upgrades or new equipment, contact the Computer Store at 814-865-2100 or 1-800-251-9281.
