Email: Authenticated SMTP for Windows

Eudora version 6.x for the Windows

On Windows, Eudora 6.x requires the following changes to use authenticated SMTP:

Note: If you are using Kerberos authenication to check mail, authenticated smtp will not work.

  1. While in Eudora, under the Tools menu, select Options....

  2. Select Sending Mail under the category list on the left side.

  3. Change the SMTP Server text box to read: authsmtp.psu.edu

  4. Make sure Allow Authentication is checked.

  5. Under Secure Sockets when Sending, make sure either If available, STARTTLS or Required, STARTTLS is visible in the drop down window.

Note: Some Eudora 6 users report getting an error message "Encryption too weak 0 less than 39". We have found that removing Eudora 6, installing Eudora 5.2, then installing Eudora 6 over Eudora 5.2 fixes the problem. Eudora 5.2 can be downloaded from https://www.work.psu.edu/downloads/eudora/old/5.2/Eudora.exe
